Dear Teacher Reps—
IF YOU WILL NOT BE THE TEACHER REP FOR 2005-2006, PLEASE ENSURE THAT
THE NEW REP IS GIVEN THIS PACKET AND SEND US HIS/HER NAME, TEACHING
ASSIGNMENT, AND EMAIL ADDRESS. IF YOUR SCHOOL INTENDS TO SEND DELEGATES
TO ETC 2006 in Manila, Philippines, THE TEACHER REP MUST BE A TEACHER
WHO WILL ATTEND.
I hope that your school year is off to a great start and that you are
already looking forward to ETC 2006! The EARCOS office staff would like
to thank again those of you who were so supportive and helpful last
spring in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam!
Enclosed please find the guidelines and proposal forms for teacher-presented
workshops and idea exchanges for the upcoming conference, March 30-April
1, 2006, in Manila, Philippines. Please distribute them to those members
of your faculty who are interested in presenting a workshop at this
conference. Because of the overwhelming response last year, we have
set a limit on the number of teacher workshop and idea exchange proposals
we can accept from each school:
1.) large schools (more than 1,000 students) can submit three workshop
and two idea exchange proposals; 2.) medium schools (401-1,000) can
submit two workshop proposals and one idea exchange proposal; and
3.) small schools (1-400) can submit one workshop and one idea exchange
proposal. In addition, each school may submit one workshop proposal
and one idea exchange proposal for both counselors and librarians. These
proposals, if complete, will be submitted to the committees for these
two strands. Completed proposal forms should be returned to the EARCOS
office by November 17, 2005. It is the responsibility of the teacher
reps to ensure that the proposal form is complete, a photo is included,
and (if your school is large or medium) that the workshop proposals
have been ranked on the ranking form by the teacher rep. (Unranked or
otherwise incomplete proposals cannot be considered). I assure you that
your rankings will be kept confidential. We have also included an evaluation
worksheet which might be helpful for you in evaluating each workshop
at your school. Several other variables will also be taken into account
in the selection of workshops—we would like as broad a range as
possible of subject areas and topics so that we can offer “something
for everyone,” and we would also like as many schools as possible
to be represented. We will let you know early in December which workshops
are selected for the conference. We will have a limited supply of infocus
projectors— it would be very helpful if potential workshop presenters
who need an infocus projector could provide their own. If you can, please
indicate this on the form.
Also enclosed is a revised list of teacher rep responsibilities throughout
the year, your responsibilities during the conference, and a suggested
calendar for teacher representative activities from August to May. We
hope that all the teacher reps will be able to attend the conference—the
coordination of it would be an impossible task without your assistance.
It is also important that you attend the TR meeting on Wednesday at
5:00 p.m. before the conference.
Please review the guidelines and forms, and if you have any questions
or suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you. Conference registration
forms and hotel forms will be mailed to you in September. We hope to
see you all and many others from your school next March!
Sincerely,
Robert A. Sills
