STEVE SEBONYA
Topic: Physical Education and Fitness
Title: Fitness: Quality of instruction defines our future.

Description:

Discussion about the perception and truths regarding PE and Fitness. How we can be more effective teachers and instructors by taking care of ourselves, creating a better teaching/coaching environment, and creating expectations that will give us the results that we desire. In addition, how should we COACH better to personalize PE to promote healthy, confident students. (C) Correct posture tempo, and technique, (O) Organize, (A) Adjust drills and skills to personalize. (C) Chase your goals with a purpose…..a reason. (H) Health is multidimensional inside and out.

Biography:
Steve has been a Strength and Conditioning Professional coach for 18 years. After 2 years at Montana State University, He spent the next 9 years at Fresno State University where he was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for all 19 varsity sports. He left FSU in 1999-2000 to run his own Progressive Sports Conditioning business. He holds his Masters Degree in Exercise Science and is certified as a “Strength and Conditioning Specialist” by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. 

Recently, Steve has been a speed, agility and strength consultant to athletes at Fresno State, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington State, Sacramento State, Montana State, UCLA, Arizona , Cal, USC, Stanford, Oregon, Nebraska, Texas, Washington, Pepperdine, Nevada, UNLV, Hawaii, Notre Dame, Santa Clara, East Carolina, Clemson, Fresno City College, Questa Collage, Cal Poly, LMU, St Mary’s, and numerous high schools.

Steve has trained multiples of Professional athletes (including 5 first round draft picks) in football, basketball, soccer, baseball, UFC world champion, volleyball, and 19 Olympians in several sports that include soccer, baseball, softball, track, wrestling, equestrian and bobsled.

During the year of 2006, Progressive Sports trained 59 athletes that were drafted by professional sports or received college scholarships.

Steve has recently taught rehab and conditioning classes for Fresno State athletic trainers, Fresno City College, Community Hospitals of Central California and Cal poly SLO, Cuesta College, the PEACH Conference, and numerous high school clinics. He has also presented research and has been published by the American College of Sports Medicine, The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, National Fast-pitch Magazine, and several internet sports publications.

Steve’s innovative approach and teaching concepts……..will allow any participant to grab and steal a huge array of exercises and drills as well as a fundamental grasp to body mechanics.

Biography:
Cathie Summerford, MS, has engaged learners internationally with action, movement, and music in her dynamic keynotes and workshops. Recognized as a true trailblazer and outstanding author in her field, Cathie's energetic action-packed approach to teaching has livened-up learning in countless classrooms globally.
Along with her current book http://www.fit4learning.com/StorePages/Books.html Action-Packed Classrooms*, she also authored http://www.fit4learning.com/StorePages/Books.html PE-4-ME: Teaching Lifelong Health and Fitness and is completing her third book. As an Educational Consultant and President of Fit 4 Learning, Cathie has been recognized as a California Teacher of the Year, National Assoication for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Teacher of the Year, and California School Boards Association (CSBA) Golden Bell award-winning author.

Cathie's experiences in the academic classroom and teaching standards-based physical education have provided her with ideas galore to share with others. She continually motivates teachers to make learning a meaningful and exciting experience. Cathie's expertise in brain research and the implications motion has on learning and retention, combined with her enthusiasm for teaching children make her an excellent source for inspiration; she has tons of ideas at her fingertips and is ready and eager to share this knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

Cathie's rapid-fire presentations focus on involvement. Her presentations move quickly, cover a lot of ground, and actively engage the participants. As a result, teachers leave her workshops with dozens of practical ideas and with a renewed love for teaching! 

In addition, she has over 16 years quality experience of teaching all levels; from pre-school to college-age including people with diverse needs. Her tried-and-true activities are "kid-proof" and "adult-friendly" and always loads of fun. On top of it, she is a 2X IRONMAN Triathlon finisher!
