Robinson Kurth
Currently teaching grade three at Caltex American School in Sumatra. Taught grade four in Portland, Oregon. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Traveled around the world at least twice. Getting kids to be good readers, writers, observers of the world, and responsible thinkers.

GRADE 5
Heather Colb
Originally from the state of Colorado in the U.S., this is my second year teaching 5th grade at the Thai-Chinese International School in Bangkok. Having a background in the arts, I find that creative, hands-on activities truly help my students to enjoy their learning. Learning should be exciting.

Andrea Kroeker Edwards
I have been at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong for the past 11 years, teaching grades 3,5,6 and some computer classes. I graduated with my Masters in Educational Technology through MSU in 2005. CDNIS, an Apple Distinguished School, recently implemented a 1:1 laptop program with the support of a strong Learning and Teaching Technologies Team.

David Gran / Breen O'Reilly
David Gran is the founding member of the Shanghai Student Film Festival, now in its second year. Over the last nine years he has taught film and video classes across various grades and levels. He is currently an art teacher at the Shanghai American School and an Apple Distinguished Educator. Breen O'Reilly teaches IB Film, World Cinema, and Theory of knowledge at the International School of Beijing. He has presented workshops on Visual Literacy, TV News, Using Film in the Literature, Class and Critical Thinking at previous EARCOS conferences. He has published work on American Crime Cinema as Morality Plays. His favorite film is Psycho.

Linda Greer-Wegener
California "certified" in 1976, I really "earned my credentials" internationally.  I've taught from kindergarten to graduate school, but since 1991 I've loved life "in the middle." Beyond the students, my teaching is inspired and influenced by earlier NGO work, service and experiential learning.  At Shanghai American School since 2002, I teach grade 8 social studies and sponsor middle school MUN.

Charmaine Gunther
Charmaine Gunther has been working at Taejon Christian Int'l School for six years as an academic and personal/social counselor for middle and high school students. TCIS is an IBO World School that serves over 600 students in day and residential programs. Mrs. Gunther has used the ASCA Model through out the middle and high school counseling programs.

MS LANGUAGE ARTS
Jennifer Magierowicz

Jennifer Magierowicz has been teaching ELA and Foreign Languages for over 15 years, from elementary to university level. She has a Master in Applied Linguistics, and a deep and ongoing interest in literacy. She lives in Beijing with her husband (chef and restaurateur) and 15 month old son. Presently she teaches grades 8 Humanities at the International School of Beijing.

HS ENGLISH
Mary Meikle
Currently teaching Upper School English at Brent International School Manila, I am originally from New Zealand, where I headed the English department of a coeducational secondary school. Over the last 25 years I have worked as a speech and language therapist, primary, secondary and ESOL teacher. I have been involved in developing curriculum, moderation and initiatives such as boy-only English classes and programmes designed to raise achievement levels of indigenous students. In this session I will distribute a bank of units and ideas that can be used with grades 9-12 English classes. Together the group will draw on each other’s expertise. There will also be opportunities for the group to network on shared interests and concerns.

Diny Naus
I am working as the Enrichment/Support Teacher in the Junior Area of the International School of the Sacred Heart, Tokyo. I have a fascination with reading and writing and how children become literate. I trained and worked in New Zealand as a Reading Recovery Teacher and as a Resource Teacher in Learning and Behaviour. Before coming to Tokyo I worked for seven years as an itinerant teacher, servicing a semi rural community. I am passionate about the teaching of reading and writing to young students. Children come to school with a huge expectation to learn to read and write.

DRAMA
Hannah Northcott
Hannah Northcott is the middle/high school drama teacher and theater director at Mont’Kiara International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She was a teacher, stage actress, radio disc jockey and television/live event host in Manila. She studied acting in New York University and the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, NY. Last year, she received a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to pursue graduate study in “Imaginative Education” at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada. She loves theater and travel.

ESL
Rena O’Regan / Elizabeth Hines
Rena O’Regan has been teaching for 22 years, and has taught all subjects at Elementary and Middle School levels. She started in New Zealand, where she had a bi-lingual class, and has been teaching internationally for the last 17 years in China, Indonesia, and the Philippines. She is currently an ESL teacher at ISManila.

Elizabeth Hines began teaching in Maryland where she taught environmental science to “at-risk” adolescents at a non-profit education center. She moved to the Czech Republic and spent five years teaching ESL to Early Childhood, Middle School and adult learners. She is currently an Elementary ESL teacher at ISManila.

Kenny Peavy / Kerry Dyke   
Kenny Peavy is originally from Georgia, USA. He holds a Masters of Science in Science Education from Montana State University. He is also a certified Science and Math teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Georgia. Kenny has worked extensively in ecological field studies ranging from water quality, aquatic entomology and icthyological surveys while employed at the University of Georgia’s Institute of Ecology, as well as insect herbivory and plant chemical defenses through Emory University and Oak Ridge National Laboratories. Kenny has written and published several natural history and travel articles published online and in print in both the United States and Malaysia. Currently Kenny lives and teaches in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. [read more]

My name is Kerry Dyke and I am passionate about helping the environment through education.  I have done environmental projects for many years and have been an environmental coordinator in Germany and Thailand.  I also teach an environmental stewardship class which has been the catalyst for many student eco changes at our school.  I have always believed in putting words into action, thus go beyond eco awareness and move into eco action.

Lisa Maren Thompson
Lisa Maren Thompson is the art teacher for the Middle Years Arts Program at Taejon Christian International School in South Korea. Prior to this position, Ms. Thompson served as a professional development coach and an online resource developer for teachers and teaching artists for the Perpich Center for Arts Education in the USA.

MS / HS CHINESE
Sarah Ting
Having been teaching the Chinese language for 31 years in various levels from K-12 and colleges; in both private and public school systems and in both overseas regions and the States; Sarah Ting is actively in developing the Chinese curriculum and in promoting multi-cultural awareness in the community for years. She also served as a board member of CLASS for 2 years.She will definitely be able to share her knowledge about teaching AP & IB, writing Mandarin curriculum and sharing effective teaching strategies with other teachers.

HS MATH
Roy Tomlinson
Roy Tomlinson has been teaching high school math for 11 years, 6 of which have been at the Singapore American School. Roy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Management from the US Military Academy and a Master’s in School Administration from Virginia Tech University.

GRADE 1 & 2
Naomi Umemura
Naomi Umemura is from Canada and holds a teaching certification from New Year State and Ontario, Canada. She currently teaches grade 2 for TEDA International School (TIS) in TEDA, Tianjin (China). She spent her first year at TIS teaching grade 1. This is her second year at TIS. She also taught Pre-k to Kindergarten for 3 years in Singapore!

MEDIA CENTER-LIBRARIAN
Sharon Vipond
Sharon Vipond joined the HKIS high school faculty in July 2008 with a key assignment to redesign the HS Library. She received her MLS from the UWO and has had a career in university, school and business libraries in Canada, Australia and Hong Kong. Sharon has had experience in all departments of the library, as well as serving as head librarian for a K-12 IB school and as a consultant for library design and collection development projects. In addition to her library assignments, Sharon has volunteered with numerous NGOs in Asia and Central America and, for 11 years volunteered as a leader for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program. She has served on school boards, master teacher and career development taskforces, and coordinated student global outreach programs.

MS / HS P.E. 6-12
Karen Seevers / Jon Wrzesinski

Jon is a veteran Physical Education/Health Enhancement teacher with a wealth of personal and professional experiences. Jon's personal experiences include being a two sport All-American athlete while attending University in the United States. His professional teaching tenure includes teaching and coaching stops at the University of Mary for three years, the Harlowton Montana Public School District for ten years, two years at the International School of Islamabad in Islamabad Pakistan, and the last three years at the Shanghai American School/Pudong Campus where Jon serves as the Department Head as well as K-12 HPE coordinator. Jon is currently serving as the chairperson for the 2010 EARCOS Physical Education conference in Manila. Jon is a well known presenter in his native state of Montana and has done numerous clinics and workshops on a wide range of teaching and coaching topics with the latest being at the 2005 NESA conference in Istanbul, Turkey and the 2008 EARCOS conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

ES COUNSELING
Lilian Canada
Elementary School Counselor,  Lillian P. Canada, is new to UNIS-HaNoi this school year, but is a 37 year veteran with international schools, has  taught at all grade levels and been a counselor at all levels including community counseling.  She is currently working towards her diploma as a Play Therapist.
