Helen Arnold
Biography: Originally an Elementary School Classroom teacher, Helen has been teaching Art for the past ten years in four international schools. She has worked with both elementary and middle school students. Her ongoing goal lies in developing a balanced program in which students become increasingly aware of not only specific art areas, but also the various strands that make a skilled and knowledgeable artist as a whole.

Topic: Expressing Mood in Art
Title: Expressing Mood in Art: From Analysis of every day Art Works to Critiques of Student Work
Description: In this workshop, teachers will be guided through a unit on creating mood in a painting, which has been particularly successful with Fourth Graders, but could be adjusted to suit any grade level. Many art teachers know how feeling is expressed or evoked in a piece of art, but how do we get the students to that point of deep understanding? Helen will guide you through this step by step exploration of coming to understand the use of subject and color in art, with lesson plan, rubric, and sample student projects to view. Each member of this workshop will leave with some new ideas of investigating mood in painting with children, and if time allows a small piece of art to boot! This workshop will be beneficial to art teachers of all ages.

Erik Custer
Biography: Sports have always been a great avenue for Erik Custer. Through playing, teaching and coaching, Erik has used sport to enrich his life globally. From Canada, Gaelic Football was something new to him but through a Korean-Irish soccer team he began to play Gaelic in 2003. Since then he has taught and coached Gaelic in Canada and Korea, highlighted by winning the Asian Gaelic Games as a player and twice coaching women’s teams into the finals.

Title: Gaelic Football: An Alternative Field Sport
Description: This presentation will introduce the basic rules and skills of Gaelic Football. This is an excellent alternative field sport that promotes success while challenging the whole class. Gaelic skills can be transferred to many other sports and encourages high levels of student participation. Gaelic is for all ages and levels. Come learn about this traditional Irish sport played all over the world and add it to your next PE unit on the field!

Pamela Donovan
Biography: Pamela Donovan is an 8th grade science teacher at Jakarta International School. Prior to joining JIS, Ms Donovan worked for The Wright Center for Innovative Science Education at Tufts University where she conducted teacher workshops on the topics of Soil Science and Classroom Composting.

Title: Classroom Composting
Description: The workshop includes an introduction into the science of composting, instructions for making classroom composting containers and student compost columns, and ideas for incorporating composting into a science curriculum. Vermicomposting will also be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to make a compost column and take away ready made lesson plans for using compost columns in class.

Fiona Gibson
Biography: Fiona trained as PD/H/PE teacher at the University of Wollongong, Australia. She has over 10 years teaching experience, the last 5 of which have been spent teaching Primary PE in International Schools. She has taught in Australia, England, Turkey, China and is currently teaching at Bangkok Patana School, Thailand. Fiona has previously been a head of department and is also a qualified Junior Squad and Assistant Swimming Coach.

Title: Fun Aquatic Activities
Description: This workshop will look at the 5 main stages of progression in Water FUNdamentals – this is pre-stroke swimming. Songs, activities and games that can be used in the different stages will be presented. The concept of ‘productive play’ will be introduced. Safety aspects will also be highlighted. This is a practical workshop so participants will need to bring swimming costumes, towels etc… and be prepared to get wet!

Katherine Hallam/Dianna Pratt
Biography: Katherine has been teaching for twelve years, six spent on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada and the others in Singapore at SAS. She is leery of all things tech, but understands the necessity of keeping up with the direction her students, and education in general, is going. Originally, Ning was a collaborative project with Dianna Pratt, who is tech-savvy and eager to share her knowledge. Dianna hails from Texas and has been teaching for twenty-six years. She believes that students will need an on-line presence and Ning allows the skills for responsible social networking to be taught before they make thoughtless mistakes.

Topic: Responsible Social Networking in the Middle School Classroom
Title: LearNING with NING
Description: Social Networking is an integral part of our students' lives. As they build their digital footprint, their choices, good or bad, could have lasting implications. As educators, we need to help students understand how to use environments like Facebook in a responsible way. Responsible social networking can be accomplished through a web-based site know as Ning, which teachers or "creators" control and manage. Presenters will show how they have used Ning with 8th grade students, while participants will engage in a collaborative exchange and learn about recommendations for setting up their own Ning.

Brendan Kean
Biography: Brendan Kean is a Grade 1 teacher at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong. He has completed a Master of Education, Bachelor of Education and a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies, which included a subject focused solely on concept-driven curriculum. Brendan is currently writing a thesis paper with Monash University of Australia on effective formative assessment strategies in schools from China, Australia and Hong Kong.

Kath Kummerow

Biography: Ann Martin, an Apple Distinguished Educator and career teacher, has watched the development and implementation of technology in schools throughout the years. Amy Narayan/Julie Schneller
Biography: Julie Schneller is a Reading and Resource Teacher at Taipei American School. Over the past 15 years, she has helped children learn to read in many capacities: as a classroom teacher, private tutor, Reading Specialist, Special Educator and mother. Julie has taught in the United States, England, Austria and China. Amy Narayan has been a Resource Teacher at Taipei American School at both the lower and middle school levels for 11 years. Although she works with students in all subject areas, teaching struggling readers to read using multi-sensory strategies is her passion.

Erickson Perez
Biography: Ericson Perez is a science and special education teacher, with bachelor's and master's degrees from Brown University and The George Washington University, respectively. This is his fourth year at Brent International School Manila. Donna Schuster

Jaci Stucker
Biography: Jaci has been overseas for 27 years teaching Playgroup to IB art in ISManila; ISKL; VIS, Lao; ACQuito, Ecuador; ISTanzania and Guangzhou, China. Erin Threlfall
Biography: Erin Threlfall is an actor/ teacher who has been acting for more than 30 years and teaching Drama for 14. The founder of award winning programs that used Drama and Arts to reach at risk youth in New York, Pennsylvania, and on the Liberian Refugee Camp in Ghana, West Africa, Erin was the recipient of the Presidential Merit and Talent Award and has received recognition from President Bush, Mayor Street, and UNHCR for her commitment to enriching lives through the arts.
