Fall Message from the Executive Director

Dick Krajczar
Executive Director

Dear Colleagues:

I wish everyone the very best for the 2009-2010 school year, and a big welcome to our 20 new heads of schools. The EARCOS region continues to grow with 113 member schools, over 82,000 students, and over 9,000 full and part time teachers and administrators. As we grow, we are committed to providing as much professional development and support as possible to help the educators in our region.

I am pleased to be working with Bill Oldread, our new EARCOS Assistant Director, who joined the team in August. Bill has worked at SAS in Shanghai, and Brent School here in the Philippines. It is a pleasure to welcome him to EARCOS. Please refer to his photo and bio in this publication.

The EARCOS annual principals’ salary survey data has been entered and will be sent to the participating schools in September. EARCOS team member, Ver Castro, has done a great job in gathering and entering the mountain of information from 56 schools. Ira Weislow, deputy head in charge of business at Taipei American School, continues to be invaluable with this project. The teachers’ salary survey has been developed on-line by Edzel Drilo, another EARCOS team member, assisted by Langston Rogde, business manager at Seoul Foreign School in Korea. We have over 46 participating schools this year. Thanks to our business manager committee of Curt Larson of CIS, Steve Panta of TAS, and Tony Shadwell of ISHCMC who reviewed and made minimal adjustments to last year’s survey.

The EARCOS administrators’ conference is scheduled for the Shangri-La Hotel on November 1-3, 2009, in Manila. Please make your reservations early, and if you have any questions, call or write to our office. We have an excellent group of presenters and it should be an outstanding conference with keynoters Jasper Koll on The Global Economic Outlook; Alan AtKisson on Sustainability; Geoff Green an adventurer whose topic will be Leadership and Endurance.

Please review the EARCOS sponsored events on the last page of this newsletter. It is a full year of activities, and we have increased our weekend workshops to 44. Thanks to all the schools who will host and with whom we will work to bring the best professional development opportunities to our membership. These schools represent large, medium, and small schools. Great effort!

I look forward to seeing many of you in Manila, and I wish you all the best for a most successful and rewarding school year. We are here to help YOU!! Remember, EARCOS offers “Personal Growth and Professional Collaboration”
