Welcome Message from the Executive Director

Welcome to EARCOS

Thank you for visiting the home page for the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS). For over half a century, EARCOS has provided leadership, support and camaraderie to the international schools across East Asia. EARCOS offers a number of exemplary programs in support of its mission. These include

The EARCOS Teacher Conference (ETC), held each March, hosts nearly 1,000 teachers from across the region. The next ETC will be held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok from March 26-28, 2020. Information on the three-year subject rotation strand may be found here.

The annual EARCOS Leadership Conference (ELC) has long been considered one of the most dynamic gatherings for school administrators, curriculum specialists and trustees anywhere. This year’s conference will be held at the Sutera Harbour Resort in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from October 29 through November 2.

The EARCOS Weekend Workshop grants assist member schools as they design and run their own professional development institutes. Each year EARCOS provides funds to support 46 Weekend Workshops on member school campuses across the region.

All member schools enjoy a subscription to the EARCOS Tri Annual Journal (ET), a professional magazine that offers rich opportunities to share questions, challenges, ideas and innovative practices that flourish across EARCOS schools—and beyond. I want to encourage our region’s leaders, classroom teachers and specialists to share their ideas, their successes, and their dilemmas across the region by publishing in the EARCOS Tri-Annual Journal.

We are bound together not only by the geographical region in which we live, work, and (occasionally) play, but by the daunting challenges of preparing today’s students for a future that promises unprecedented, rapid-fire and continuous change. To this end, it has never been more important for the educators of this region to take advantage of the partnerships that have become the hallmark of this regional association.

Today, EARCOS enjoys a dynamic communications network whose spokes resonate across the globe. Over the past five decades critical friendships have been established with many, many organizations who share a commitment to rethink and redesign today’s schools as we strive to embrace the future of international education. These critical friendships ensure that all of us in EARCOS can participate purposefully in conversations on the extraordinary possibilities shared by international educators everywhere.

So, again, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, our dedicated staff, and the thousands of international educators and students served by EARCOS, please allow me to welcome you to the EARCOS website. We look forward to seeing you at one of this year’s gatherings and, of course, to hearing from you on the topics that matter most to you.

With my very best wishes,

Edward E. Greene, Ph.D.
